BREACHES OF HYC CODES OF BEHAVIOUR
Athletes who misbehave or are in breach of the Club’s safety rules or Codes of Behaviour will be
disciplined in accordance with this policy.
Unacceptable Behaviour on any given day:
-
Coaches will adopt positive behavioural supports in all classes.
-
The coach in charge gives the athlete a verbal warning that their behaviour is unacceptable.
-
Based upon the coach’s judgement: they may speak with the athlete to determine whether something has occurred in that class or prior to that class that is causing them to behave theway they are behaving; counsel them to alter their behaviour; the athlete may be asked to sit out of the class for a period of time in the Administration Office.
-
If a problem persists during the class, the coach is to notify the Head Coach or the Supervising Coach of the day to assess the situation, and a note will be made in Jack Rabbit of behaviour demonstrated and interventions undertaken.
-
If the behaviour persists on the day, parents will be notified and advised to come and pickup their child.

Unacceptable Behaviour on repeated days:
Where there are ongoing instances of unacceptable behaviour:
-
Parent will be notified by telephone or in writing if necessary that there are concerns with the athlete’s behaviour. They may be asked in for a meeting with the coach and/or the HeadCoach or Gym Panel Coach and the Centre Manager to discuss the situation
-
As a result of this meeting, a behaviour management program will be developed. The Centre Manager and Head Coach concerned are responsible for following through the management program, which should include planned strategies for positive behaviour support and managing poor behaviour and include a follow up with both the athlete and the parent at a appropriate interval.
-
Notes regarding this meeting and subsequent behaviour management plans are to be recorded in Jack Rabbit.
-
The Head Coach/ Gym Panel Coach may suspend an athlete as a disciplinary measure. All
suspensions are to be agreed with the Centre Manager in consideration of the seriousness
of the behaviour and its impact on the team/class. -
If after following the above, there is still no improvement in the athlete’s behaviour, the
athlete will be withdrawn from the Club. -
The Centre Manager will report any suspensions or withdrawals from the club to the
Committee.
The Highett Youth Club reserves the right to refuse or withdraw any athlete in any group or class
without a warning or counselling where a member of staff believes that an individual presents a risk
to the safety of him/herself or others. Such instances may include:
1. Failure to follow instructions or act in a reasonable, sensible way; and
2. Physical or verbal abuse of an athlete or staff member.
Where there is a breach of these Code of Behaviour by a Parent/Guardian, the Committee may
counsel the person, seek a formal apology, require them to undergo training (such as diversity
awareness training), suspend/ban an individual from the HYC building and Club events, or cancel a
family’s Club membership as is deemed appropriate.
Breaches of the Codes of Behaviour by staff will be managed in accordance with the performance
management procedures outlined in their contract.
Breaches of the Codes of Behaviour by Committee will be managed in relation to the Highett Youth
